The Regent, Singapore

This was our first visit to Singapore and we soon dubbed it- home of the stylish and well-heeled. With pristine streets, flourishing green spaces trees strewn throughout the city and seemingly deep-pocketed residents, it stood in such contrast to all the other Asian countries we had visited and resided in. It was only fitting then that we begin our stay at the Regent Singapore, A Four Seasons Hotel along Cuscaden Road. We walked in from the humid streets into the regal lobby with sparkling chandeliers, towering orchid arrangements and guests chattering softly on the couches.

Location

My husband says that the hotel was perfectly positioned for me and all known shopaholics. Only a short walk from the renowned Orchard Street with its high end malls and endless corners for shoppers to swipe their cards, you don’t need to take a taxi or a bus to find a restaurant, bar, mall or anything else you may desire when you first arrive in Singapore.

Interior

Despite the Regent having been around for quite some time and constructed in the popular Asian Atrium style, there was nothing old about our room. Having been recently refurbished in 2013, the interior had subtle elements of oriental old-world elegance with bold accents of gold and orange. As the techie of our travel blogging duo, my husband loved the comfortable desk with its multiple universal plug points and the fact that he could charge our devices from our nightstand’s power points. Aside from the gold cushions and the view, I have to admit that my favorite part was the luxurious bathroom filled with L’Occitane products, indulgent towels and a speaker that allowed me to hear the TV from the bath.

Facilities

There’s a reason this hotel keeps on winning so many awards year after year, once you’re there, you may not feel the need to leave during the day. For these keen to keep fit and cool, you can head to their pool, gym, or spa. Plus you have ample places to choose from when it comes to eating. We enjoyed a breakfast feast in the Basilico which offered everything from traditional Asian dishes to Western favorites with all the sweet and syrupy delights in between.

I have to say that a huge highlight is the Regent’s trendy new prohibition style Manhattan Bar. While bringing a modern element to an old hotel, it stylishly echoes the 1950/60’s New York era of fine drinking with an art-deco interior. Walking into the dark, contemporary space with the only light illuminating bottles lining the back walls, it felt like I had entered another time and place. Boasting the world’s first in-hotel rick-house, lovers of whisky and other fine spirits can witness the finishing of their favorites in oak barrels.

I loved the ingredients room or as I like to call it, the Apothecary. A dream room for any barman, especially Head Bartender Ricky Paiva, you will find any potion under the sun such as wild-cherry bark, dandelion roots and more which all get a turn to shine in some delicious cocktail concoction.
